James Sanders Holman (7 February 1804 – 8 December 1867) served as the first mayor of Houston, Texas from August to December 1837. Holman was born in Harrison County, Kentucky, and moved with his family to San Augustine, Texas in 1834. He participated in the Texan Revolution, and fought in the Siege of Bexar. He co-founded the city of Houston in 1836. During the American Civil War, he served on the Texas State Military Board from 1864 to 1865. After the war, he supervised construction of the Houston and Texas Central Railway, until succumbing to yellow fever in Bryan, Texas. ==References==
